Other ActivitiesAlma is the home to Alma Creamery, where the famous Alma Cheese is produced. No visit to Alma is complete without a stop to their store or even a tour of their factory. As their hours do vary according to the season and tours need to be booked in advance. You can contact them by phone at 785-765-3522, or check out their web site at www.almacreamery.com for more details. Are you a wine connoisseur? Then do not forget to stop at Wyldewood Cellars in Paxico to check out their award winning wine selection. Alma is also home to the Wabaunsee County Historical Museum which is situated at the corner of 3rd and Missouri. The hours are 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Saturday; they are closed for lunch between noon and 1 pm. On Sundays they are open from 1 to 4 pm. For a real treat, visit on Tuesdays or Wednesdays when you will find the ladies of the local quilting bee working on quilts which are destined to become heirlooms. Ask them to show you pictures of the quilts that they have worked on over the years. Interested in researching your past or have an interest in history? The museum also has a volunteer genealogy group who meet the second and fourth Wednesday of each month and they are happy to assist in any way they can. In our cemetery you will even find a headstone dating back to the Revolutionary War of 1812, although there is no historic record to confirm this. |
