Area Lakes

There are several wonderful lakes within an hour's drive. The City Lake is located just a few miles south of town on Hessdale Road. Although it does not have any campground sites, it offers a good relaxing day of fishing. Council Grove Lake offers multiple camp sites, many of which can be reserved ahead of time. It is 37 miles southwest of Alma and the drive takes you along the Skyline Scenic Drive either along Old Highway 10 passing through Alta Vista, or the newer Highway 99. Both routes offer magnificent views of the Flint Hills. Closer to Manhattan, Tuttle Creek Lake is 32 miles northwest and Milford Lake is 37 miles northwest of Alma. About 15 miles southeast of town is Lake Wabaunsee, featuring a wonderful bed and breakfast, The Gem Resort.
